Best learner cup out there. Beware of new spout.
After wasting my money on several brands and having the usual leaking or chocking problem, I found this cup and it is by far the best out there. I believe it's a German design. I started using it after I stopped breast feeding at 11 months. I bought a second one after a couple of months because my daughter, now 17 months, would'nt and still won't drink her milk if it is not with this cup. I put her to bed with milk/water and it has never leaked. My only complaint is that it only comes on the 5-6oz size and I wish there was a bigger size and replacement spouts. I loved it so much I gave them as presents to my niece and nephew.

UPDATE 5/09 - I bought two extra cups to replace the old spouts, since gerber did not have replacements readily available. I was so disappointed with the new spout. My now 18 month baby hates it so much, she cries because she can't get anything out of it, so I have to give her the really old spout. Gerber changed the soft and wide spout, with a hard and more compact spout, which is truly hideous. Now I have two unusable spouts and a toddler who loves drinking her milk on these cups. Nevertheless, these are the only sippys that do not leak.

Good luck getting anything out of it
this thing is impossible to drink from. the hole in the nipple is too small and there's too much vacuum pressure inside the cup. adults are barely able to suck anything through this nipple, let alone kids. buy this only if you want a frustrated and thirsty baby.

Great option for independent babies
My 6.5mo daughter is primarily breastfed, but has always taken a bottle a few mornings a week while I'm at work. My husband and I used the wide mouth bottles because they were recommended for breast feeding, but they are hard for her to hold herself. She's very independent and really enjoys trying to feed herself, so we considered moving to more narrow bottles but then we found this at our local supermarket. I'm here to get a few more because we're retiring the bottles. This "sippy" cup has been a great stepping stone and she loves kicking back in her high chair and drinking by herself.

Some other reviews here have complained about the difficulty of sucking from the nipple, but I think those folks didn't try biting down on the nipple like babies do. Remember, it is still a hybrid of a bottle, not a true sippy cup. If you bite down, there seems to be no issue that I've experienced.

My daughter loves this cup and so do we!
